“”Smelling isn’t everything” said the Elephant. “Why,” said the Bulldog, “if a fellow can’t trust his nose, what is he to trust?” “Well, his brains perhaps,” she replied mildly.” – C.S Lewis

Oh yes, I have many super powers, and anosmia is one of them.

In case you are not familiar :

Anosmia (pronounced /ænˈɒzmiə/) is a lack of functioning olfaction, or in other words, an inability to perceive odors. Anosmia may be either temporary or permanent. A related term, hyposmia, refers to a decreased ability to smell, while hyperosmia refers to an increased ability to smell. Some people may be anosmic for one particular odor. This is known as “specific anosmia”. The absence of the sense of smell from birth is called Congenital Anosmia. – Wikipedia

The funny thing is, peoples disbelief that you really, seriously, cannot smell.. at all.

I constantly have people shoving strongly scented things under my nose…

” You HAVE to be able to smell that”.

Um, no, I can’t.

It hasn’t always been this way, just the last 4 years, or so. I have chronic sinusitis , polyps, the works.

I had a surgery last May to remove some of the polyps but.. as the doctor had predicted, they would regrow quickly because of my allergies, sensitivities and asthma.

I am about to embark on “diet”, seeing if what I consume is consuming..me.

My body seems to be in constant attack of itself, so I’m about to try a  salicylate free or low diet.

I am hopeful! We’ll see how it goes.
